05.26 Whitsun Track Race

The first of the three stages was held on the track at Le Quennevais. The original plans for 3 separate divisional races needed some tweaking with most of div1 away in Amsterdam (no doubt selected for its excellent art galleries) at Dave Jardines stag do, so div 1 & 2 were started together. Not a perfect solution but the best we could come up with. The group split early on with Jim Garrett and Ali Cann setting the pace chased by the rest of Div 1 and a group of the faster vets including Bob Cabot & Mike Mitch. They in turn were chased by another group made up of the rest of div 2 including Mick Higginson and Jim Davis.

Divsion 3 started with a group of 13 riders but rapidly slimmed down as riders struggled with the pace. At the start of lap 7 Noel Hayden, Harvey Brookfield and Pete Du Val got away with Noel & Harvey staying away until the end, Noel taking the line honours and Harvey just managing to hold off a late charge from Paul Lipscombe, Pete Du val being caught on the last lap by the chasing pack. Good work by the Velo group including yours truly, Alex Blampied, & Simon Perchard.
