05.29 VSJ Track Race

Youth Race

Turn out was a little low due to half term hols but good to see 2 new faces turn up. It took a bit of time to get every one sorted out (we’re supposed to start at 6. p.m. guys!) but we finally got two groups going for a 3 lap race of the track. In the big wheels section Sam Carney & Karl Laugeard battled it out all the way round. With nothing to separate them as they came into the final straight the dash to the line was hard fought with Sam managing to just pull away in the last few yards...fantastic stuff. Tyler Garrett (Jim’s son) joined these two at the end of the 1st lap having arrived late for his first go on a racing bike...good to see you...and put in a good effort but couldn’t hold onto the two more experienced youngsters.  In the smaller wheels race Cormac Bloomer worked hard with new face Cameron Donaldson hanging onto his wheel until the start of the 3rd lap when disaster struck on the left hand bend after the start as he touched Tony Moffa’s wheel and came down. Full marks to Cameron for getting back on and continuing to race plus a few scatches and a sore wrist. Unfortunately the sore wrist got worse over night and an x ray the next day revealed a twig fracture that required a plaster bracelet. Tough luck, but don’t be put off, you looked good on the bike and with a bit more practice corners won’t be a problem...we look forward to seeing back on the bike.

Grown ups (a relative term)

30 mins plus 2 laps for all.

The select group of mostly VSJ riders maintained a fierce pace throughout the race on what was a calm and sunny evening following the storms of the last few days.  Both groups started at the same time and the 30 minutes was not short of excitement with Harvey and Tony M joining the faster group for a while and Craig Merideth trying to keep away for a while on a lone break.

Dave Jardine crossed the line ahead of Jim Garrett in the faster group while Dave Whitt just edged ahead of Craig and Anthony in the bunch sprint.

Thanks to Jim Davis for organising and the marshalls for their help.
