The forecast was grim and the turnout for this race reflected this. In reality the rain held off to the end so conditions were not too bad, although the roads were wet, with plenty of mud washed onto them from the rain over the last few days. Fortunately the casualties were very small with only Tom Phillips from the C’s coming off...no injuries and a bent derailier. Sadly the lack of Div 1 riders once again meant they had to join the Div 2 riders and the results reflected this, but a good result for Mike Mitch taking 4th and first Div 2 rider. Russell got away with the winning break of 4 riders but didn’t manage to feature in the top 3.
Divison three was a similar story to last week with Keith White making a decisive break, but this time he managed to stay away to the end. Good riding on his part and up to us to make sure next time he is closed down...time for a team tactics discussion I feel! Alex Blampied put in another strong performance as did Jo Gangnerie and young Sam, great ride staying with the main group all the way. Hard luck for Gerry pulling a muscle on lap 1 and Des puncturing...thanks for the offer of Dictaphone, not needed in the end. Good to see Mark Cashion taking part in his first road race for quite some time.
