29/03/09 - Les Quennevais Track Divisional Races

The 2009 Track season got underway this morning at Les Quennevais circuit in the form of 3 divisional races.

An impressive debut win by Ian Campbell in Division 3 started proceedings off with CCC’s Mick Heald and Velo Sport’s Des McClelland taking 2nd and 3rd respectively. Karl Laugeard finishing a fine 4th and 1st Junior! Big well done to young Ryan O’Shea too for finishing and finishing well. Nicky Bardin finished in 5th and 1st lady with Nicole Hubert just behind her in 8th place.

Division 2 was won with a last lap attack from Steve Whiteside who held off the sprinting pack with just a few bike lengths to spare.  Stephen Hayley took and impressive 2nd place from Tony Moffa in the sprint and picked up the 1st Junior place. Shaun Twohig came so close to a rare track solo breakaway victory, unlucky in mis-timing his effort slightly after staying away for a few laps and getting caught on the bell lap. Sam Carney took 4th with Harvey Brookfield coming in 5th.

Chris Seviour launched an attack mid-way through the Division 1 race with Chris Spence joining him to hold on till the finish with the latter taking the sprint easily. There were a few attempts to bring them back, notably from Adam Wojtkiewicz but to no avail. Dave Jardine took the sprint for 3rd with ease from Adam.  Velo’s Vince Peron took 5th. Good rides also for Mike Mitch and Bob Cabot finishing in the bunch respectively and well done Mike Keighrey, never giving up and finishing in 11th!

All in all a good mornings racing and in particular well done to Stephen Hayley, Sam Carney and Karl Laugeard, all three Juniors finishing in very respectable positions.  A sign of things to come this season? We’ll see.  Keep up the good work lads.

Thanks to Pete Mitchell and Jim Davis for organising and to Ian Williams and Bill Buist for marshalling and keeping us all alive!
